| 359826 | 2005-05-30 12:55:00 | I got one last week and rang Orcon. I was tempted to run the sucker at work, as none of the anti-virus scanners picked it up (Just because I could, I was in a weird mood). It was _obviously_ a virus (being a called "support.html .pif" kinda gives away cruel intentions). Instead, I took it home and tried to run it under WINE and Crossover Office, but I couldnt get it to go :( |

| 359828 | 2005-05-30 20:51:00 | NOt long ago I got one along the lines of "Your domain is about to expire and you have to renew it yadda yadda yadda" I though bloody phishing spam again and immediatly deleted it without taking much notice as I had similar from ebay etc that were phishing attempts. About a month later my site went down, because my domain had expired :) Thank goodness my webhost fixed it in hours. But you just can't tell sometimes |

| 359830 | 2005-05-30 22:22:00 | What sort of AV are you guys using and do you have it set to scan your email. If yes to the latter, replace the former with a decent AV, if no, why not. If it can't scan email, yep, your learning, replace it with one that can. You never know, next time you could get a self activating one. Avast! is what I am using and it did not flag the email or attachment as a virus when it came in but it has picked up with a scan of my Eudora attachment folder so that's a relief. Sounds like another dirty worm with a backdoor payload according to Symantec (securityresponse.symantec.com) and I am picking that a lot of people are going to be stung with this one since it looks so genuine. |

| 359832 | 2005-05-31 09:15:00 | I think the free version of AVG will only detect an email virus if you tried to open the infected file. Don't think it performs "live" scanning of the email as it downloads. Someone will correct me if I remember this incorrectly. If you saved the attachment, and then manually scanned the file it should of detected the virus. apart from AVG what are other people using?None. ;) |
