| 359910 | 2005-05-30 23:36:00 | I'm using XMMS on a Mepis system One small annoyance is that when i go into the konqueror file browser and select an audio file, XMMS replaces the entire playlist with the file i selected. :eek: I would much rather set it up so that the file i select gets added to the existing playlist. Is this possable? How? |

| 359911 | 2005-05-31 01:31:00 | Just "+File" (but not +DIR or +URL) from the XMMS console (left lower corner). | vinref (6194) | ||

This would be particually useful for when i take Flaptop to gigs, plug it into the P.A. and use XMMS for the sound thats between acts. When using Flaptop in this way, i am running as "guest user" as i am not able to guard the machine from "helpers" as i am often sound man, stage hand, and stage mananger. I need it to be fairly idiot proof. Another option would be to have an alternative to XMMS that will play from a playlist that can be added to as the default action for double clicking files as seen in konquerors file display. I could set this up as the default handler for .oggs and .mp3s for my "guest" user. Am i making sense here? I'm open to many ideas here. |

Sounds like your confusing XMMS with the control panels of the ship that does the sundive for some sleazy rock band in the HHGTTG......... My version of XMMS came configured with blue labels on black buttons on black background. I think it looks quite sexy! Anyway, it is designed to be skinable, so you should be able to change the appearance if you were to so choose. Of course i've never actually done it myself! | personthingy (1670)
| 359915 | 2005-05-31 05:38:00 | IIRC, Mepis comes with a diff skin default. You can set it up by right-clicking on an MP3 and selecting "open-with" IIRC. Then you'll get a list. You want to open with: xmms --enqueue Type that in and tell it to remember and see how you go Chill. |

You can make your own playlist - just manually create a directory, copy/move or link music files into it. You can also do this with XMMS itself - bottom right corner is a button for for Load List, then choose New List. However, I am not aware that you can add new tracks dinamically - you will have to refresh the whole list everytime you add to it. |

I went and had a good poke around the system, and discovered the file association part of the "control panel", and with a little help i got from running "man XMMS" in Konsole, i made a small and very suttle change. The command now reads "xmms %U -e" instead of "xmms %U" According to the man output: -e, --enqueue Don't clear the playlist. Just what i was looking for! Why this isn't the default action, i dont know! :D |

Just pop the package into ~/.xmms/Skins as is (don't extract). Use the keys ALT-S when XMMS is open and it will display the skin manager. | Jen (38)
