359485 2005-05-29 04:54:00 A client has a new ASUS A4 laptop which has started looking for new hardware and not finding the drivers. There were two unknown devices, "SIS Port Driver" and "SIS netgroup packet driver", to start with, but now there is a third, "MMIOPORT". There is also an error that comes up a few minutes later "The requested control is not valid for this service." then a red X and "ControlService".

I have pointed XP to SIS dvrs, downloaded and run a dvr update but it made no difference. To get around the problem I disabled the three errant devices. Everything seems to work fine.

I have done a lot of searching and a couple of others have had the problem recently but no one is definite about the cause/solution. Someone suggests it is an XP update that has caused it. Someone else thought it might be a carry-over from a now unplugged USB device.

Just wondered if anyone else had come across this problem or had any useful ideas.

I am following up on the theory that the problem is caused by a phantom USB device . The owner went to Japan and hooked it up to a Brother MFC printer . It installed a ptr and fax . Maybe XP is looking for the now non-existent fax . Just a possibility .
