360462 2005-06-02 01:33:00 HI
I bought new 256mb ramstick and pioneer dvdrom for my pc it is not able install xp on it. whenever i try to install XP Pro, while copying files it says windows is unable to copy
mfc40.dll
mfc40u.dll
mfc42.dll
mfc42u.dll
micross.ttf
mland.dat
mll_qic.dll
mmc.exe
mmcdmgr.dll
ocfilesw.inf

after every file i have to press esc there are almost 20-25 files which is unable to copy now the cd is working because i used it to install xp onto my laptop. when the setup is at 40-55 % it gives me blue screen of death saying pfn_list_corrupt then i restarted later and samething happend at 40-50% a blue screen appeared again saying memory_management.

360463 2005-06-02 02:01:00 Check the disk for dust/scratches if there is none the CD drive could be faulty Overdrive_5000 (4950)
360464 2005-06-02 02:15:00 It isnt all cleaned up. The microsoft is saying it may happen due to bad memeory so iam testing my new ram stick that i put in using memetest86 gum digger (6100)
360465 2005-06-02 02:43:00 I'm pretty sure it is faulty RAM. I had similar problems getting W2K installed on an old computer and after getting the CD polished (just in case) Memtest showed up a faulty RAM stick (one of two, fortunately). I took it out and all went well from there on.

One warranty claim later and everything was back to normal.

360467 2005-06-02 04:17:00 hey can u fix errors with memtest86.

No, RAM is hardware (firmware?) and when it's stuffed, it's stuffed.

If faulty, replace it.

360468 2005-06-02 04:37:00 wel the memtest is stil running till now it has done 4 passes and found 1357381 errors and 0 ecc errors. do u think i shuld stop and get another one or wait till this finnishes. coz Billy T ur saying that i cant fix it anyway. gum digger (6100)
360469 2005-06-02 05:35:00 What do you think?

Only 1357381 errors? Even a Windows installation would notice errors at that level. ;)

I take it it's not ECC memory. That would explain why there are no ECC errors.

That is bad memory. Remember to get it replaced. Now.

360471 2005-06-02 21:01:00 No...Problems Solved atleast it loads win98 with no fatal errors (blue screen of death) like before. but one problem is that it freezes after 10-20 min iam guessing it is because the heat since it doesnt have a fan ontop of AMD chip. gum digger (6100)
