360325	2005-06-01 09:20:00	I always have a problem installing new hardware. When the Wizard gets to the Find Drivers bit I can't find them. Even when I insert the relevant CD they can't be found. Is there some idiot-proof way of overcoming my lack of Geekery? How are the technically illiterate supposed to find the secret hidey-hole where these elusive creatures lurk? Btw are they overseas with those support staff who I thought were based in Auckland but who turn out to actually be in Singapore. Tia Martynz	martynz (5445)
360326	2005-06-01 09:26:00	what are you trying to install? are you pointing the installer to the right file on the cd? is the path correct? sometimes i just open up my computer -> c rom -> and click the setup.exe and this usually has an installer that installs the drivers and some software that is on the cd	Prescott (11)

I'm installing a new item of hardware, I've got the CD loaded, I follow all the steps then the Wizard asks me where the Driver is. Assuming its on the CD I click the appropriate box only to be told its not there. How am I supposed to know where it is then, I'm not a psychic. Alternatively I've been instructed to download a Driver. I do and go thro' all the rigmarole and then the Wizard asks where it is. Again I click what I think is the appropriate box. Nada. Joke.Downloaded ones, firstly you unzip them right? Then point the wizard to the folder it was unzipped to. With CDs, you sometimes have to point it to several sub-folders within the CD. Like CDDRIVE:/Drivers/audio/win9x for instance. Also with XP it sometimes its too smart and isn't actually looking where you think. Choose Install from a specific location. Then point it to the correct place. But if there is a setup.exe for the driver, run that instead of the wizard.	pctek (84)

I install my camera from the exe. and its fine... the wizard then 'finds new hardware' Cancel wizard... camera not work. uninstall camera... use wizard to install it... wizard cannot see driver... 360331	2005-06-01 10:31:00	Most drivers will either be a setup . exe file, or an inf file . As said, all you have to do, is if u download the driver, is u unzip it to its own folder, then when the wizard comes up, point the wizard to the inf file . Either that, or do the same thing from device manager . . . It'll show the entry here, for the device, you're trying to install . On the other hand if its a setup . exe file, run it and it should install the files for you . And u may have to reboot, that should be it . Some cameras if digital have a mode switch on them, you have to flick the switch on it, so XP knows it exists .	Speedy Gonzales (78)

Tia Martynz It may help me to help you if you actually say what hardware you want to install. You say it is the relevant CD but is it? For example with WinXP you go and buy a new printer connecting to a USB port it would be wise to insert the CD and install drivers before the printer is actually plugged in. That is with several HP printers. Have you read the instructions for installing the mystery hardware? What hardware are you trying to install? What operating system do you use? What motherboard have you? Answers to these questions will help us to help you.	Elephant (599)
360334	2005-06-01 20:31:00	Interesting to see that I'm not the only one who has problems. OK. I try to install a USB2.0 card on my laptop (my OS is Win98SE and I only have USB 1.1). I follow the instructions to the letter and the Wizard tells me to find the driver. I assume its on the CD but it can't be found. So how am I supposed to know where it is? Some other suggestions from earlier up the thread. I download a self-installing file. It installs itself and doesn't ask me where to put it. So again I'm in the dark. Another lulu. I'm sure I know where the driver is so I browse to the relevant folder and Hey Presto, the OK box is greyed out. Martynz	martynz (5445)
