2005-06-01 08:37:00 | Hi I do not know where to go from here. I purchased a my choice build PC from a Wellington assembler. I ordered it on 6th July 04 and I chose a Gigabyte MB off their Website. They informed me that it was no longer available and the distributors had a similar one, so I agreed I also said I would use their advice as to what would go with the CPU and the Geil Dual Channel 2x 512 MB PC3200 DDR (400Mhz) CL2 Memory The new MB is a GIG GA-K8NSNXP socket754 cost $371 I asked for a AMD 64 3000+ CPU cost $462 On the 10 August 04 the MB failed and was replaced by the agents at no cost. On 21 March 05 that MB failed. When I asked if I could pay extra and replace with another from the same supplier I was told It was too close to expiry of guarantee and they were not interested They replaced it at no cost BUT I have noticed on boot-up it has this message CPU Clock Frequency 200 Mhz. That was not their before. Have they slowed it down? They did not tell me anything. I do not know a lot about this type of thing. If this one fails I am obviously on my own

I had it a total of 8 months (2MB's) and they said "you have had it too long for a change" I added the "gaurantee" bit because I thought that was the reason. The rest of the wording is correct. |

2005-06-01 09:54:00 | I'm not certain about your particular mother board, but I do know that the Advanced Micro Systems (AMD) released a new revision of their Athlon64 S939, the code name is Venice . Venice is produced in 90nm, has 512KB Cache and is clocked betwen 1 . 8 GHz and 2 . 4 GHz . Compared to its predecessor, the Winchester, new features are support for SSE3 and an improved Integrated Memory Controller (IMC), which means the the CPU itself manages the computer's memory . With those improvements it is now possible to run 2GB memory at 200 MHz with a CommandRate of 2T . Previous CPUs were only able to run 2GB Memory in Async Mode (5:4 - Ram: 166 MHz 2T) . It's that bold bit I thought might interest you given your post . Regards, As to the ongoing problems with your motherboards, I'd be givning serious thought to contacting Cunsumer Affairs and checking whether you could now get another company to repair the clearly faulty pc and get the bill sent to the current company who appear to be faulty themselves . Not most. Some. Like the decent brands. Yes I would be arguing about chnaging it with them, too many failures in too short a time. Time for a better model.

2005-06-01 10:23:00 | Pctek--thanks for that. I asked them what did the agents say and they said "they do not tell us anything, they replace it and we fit it" | Nalla (6795) | |
2005-06-01 22:11:00 | "Gigabyte motherboards will come with a 3-year warranty effective from December 1, 2003. Gigabyte has reinforced the channels faith in its products and in appreciation to the excellent market response to its motherboards has responded by extending the warranty cover period. " The distributors for Gigabyte boards here in NZ are Ingram Micro (now part of Tech Pacific) and Checksun. Checksun in my experience have zero customer service. I'd ring Tech Pac (auckland, Albany area) and see what they will do. Point out the warranty issue and tell them the retailer is saying its 1 year.

2005-06-02 07:12:00 | Thank-you pctek-- I will get in touch with them. I apologize for my misquote in that retailer said "you have had it too long for a change" That TOO long was 8 months, I assumed it must be close to end of term for them to say that. They did say they would ask the agents, and the reply was no luck, even though I offered to pay more if needed.

2005-06-03 07:54:00 | In Windows XP, right click on My Computer and choose Properties . It should open System Properties and be on the General Tab . The processor speed should be under the Computer heading . Is it correct? AlphabetSoup gave the correct explaination for the 200MHz appearance during POST . Good luck
