360110 2005-06-01 01:18:00 Dunno about FF's built-in search facility, but of course GoogleNZ has a NZ search function, or you could try searchnz.co.nz which does a good job at limiting its results to mostly just NZ sites Greg (193)
360111 2005-06-01 02:02:00 Rather than "search" I think what is meant is the ability of a browser to edit an incomplete URL and add default values. e.g. "www.microsoft" might be altered to "www.microsoft.com This has the problem that it takes a number of failed DNS operations. It appears that Internet Explorer (the way it's set up here, anyway) doesn't add the ".com". It does add the "/" which the URL syntax requires.
I saw the addition of "/" and .com (as the most common TLD) documented as being part of Netscape 3 when I read a book once. ;)

If Firefox does do this trick, the TLD used is probably compiled in, but you never know. Have a look for configuration files.

In your address bar enter "about:config". In the filter field enter "browser.fixup". It should reveal the relevant settings. I haven't tried any of them so googling each one would be a good idea before making any changes.
