360066 2005-05-31 11:18:00 I have Publisher 2002 and Office XP. I've been sent a disc with the same Publisher file variously saved as Publisher 98, Publisher 2000 and Publisher 2003. I cannot open any of them - just get a message "Publisher cannot open this file"
MS Knowledgebase tells me it's a compatibility problem with Norton anti virus - the link to their fix is no longer available. I've turned off Norton to no avail. Can anyone help please?

360067 2005-05-31 12:07:00 nothing to do with anti-virus. get them to resend file as publisher 2002.
pub 2002 may not be able to open 2003, & the others may not have been saved properly.

360068 2005-05-31 20:23:00 Publisher is usually backwards compatible, as are most MS products though forward compatibility to Pub 2003 would be very doubtful. I have nor problems going back to archive files from earlier versions with Pub 2000, and I would be really surprised if Pub 2002 couldn't open Pub 2000 files.

I also doubt that AV would be a problem. I'd get them to resend, but ask them to check that they can open them at source before sending. It is remotely possible that 2003 does not create backwards compatible files but it sounds unusual.

The "save as" file types provide the clue. If they could save as 98, 2000 or 2002 from Pub 2003 then they are intended to be compatible.

Cheers
