360335 2005-06-01 21:15:00 when the auto detect install drivers option appears you should have several options where to search for the drivers( you say you have unpacked them to a mystry place on your hard drive) easy way tell the installer to search your entire hard drive, its been a while since ive played with 98 so I cant remember the exact wording of this option.

Another lulu. I'm sure I know where the driver is so I browse to the relevant folder and Hey Presto, the OK box is greyed out.

Browse to the unpack directory using my computer. There is proberly a setup or install.exe in there. The reason the ok box is greyed out is the installer cant find a inf file to use for installing, a good indicator of the other install method, setup or install.exe

360336 2005-06-01 21:46:00 I have no trouble finding drivers, but on numerous occasions I have installed drivers and have the addon working then next time I reboot the idiot wizard "finds new hardware" and insists on looking for drivers. I have even pointed it to the loaded file and get told "no drivers at that location"

At present my printer is running with two instances of it's setup program on my hard drive. I installed it, then windows found it and wanted to look for drivers. I went through the rigmarole and ended up with Panasonic and Panasonic2 on my hard drive. Printer works fine, but if I remove either file it won't go.

I think my wizard went to the same school that all the "Help" desk people went to.

360337 2005-06-01 22:19:00 Is it possible to disable the wizard ? Organicpete (133)
360338 2005-06-01 22:30:00 I spose you could try turning pnp OFF, or changing it to NO in the BIOS.

That might stop the hardware wizard from annoying you.

360339 2005-06-02 10:55:00 Sorry Beama, I don't understand your reply to my bit about the greyed out OK box.
What exactly should I do to get the Drivers found?
I'm told they are in the Systems32 folder, I've checked and they are but the Wizard won't "accept" them.
What precise alternative do I have? I don't know where the Unpacked Directory is.

360340 2005-06-02 11:24:00 If you know where the driver is (inf file) right click on it and click "Install" - that should work... HadO (796)

Ill find a 98 machine when Im at work and get the right wording for that option for the installer to search for the driver on your C:\ (in your words the mystry place it unpacked to)
