361028 2005-06-03 21:54:00 Is there any benefit booting from one drive over another? I currently have two drives in this machine - a 160gb WD and a 40gb Seagate. Both 7200rpm. Currently I boot to a partition on the 160gb, but I am thinking of changing how it all works and using the 40gb as my boot/OS drive and using the 160gb as storage etc. I am guessing it is unlikely I would notice any performance difference due to both drives running at basically the same speed. Is there any issues that are likely to arise from what I am proposing?
Are there any reasons I shouldn't do it? I am thinking that then if a drive dies it's more likely to be the 40gb than the 160gb (due to higher use I imagine would occur due to OS and programs being run from it)...

Are there any serious flaws in my thinking? :D

Mike.

361029 2005-06-04 00:06:00 Sounds like you've thought about it all. I don't see any problems. I'd make the boot/os partition about 10Gb. That is all it needs. trader15570 (7852)

You quite possibly wouldn't notice much of a difference though. I always tend to use my smallest drive as my OS drive. Jeremy (1197)
