360946 2005-06-03 09:58:00 Hi, I'm a newby to this forum so please help if you can. Has anyone had experience with Norton not always loading on boot up? If it doesnt load you can turn it on but you cannot enable autoprotect, therefore rendering it usless. cartageman (8265)
360947 2005-06-03 10:04:00 rip it out, throw it away, put in a better one ;)

got a network card installed? i have sen that happen due to the network card is waiting for an ip. set a fixed ip addy and it stopped doing it. your milage may vary.

is it fully upto date ie you have run liveupdate not just waited for the autoupdates to download.

what ver of nortons do you have and what OS (98, xp etc) ?

360948 2005-06-03 10:05:00 If autoprotect doesnt turn on it doesnt mean the AV isnt working .

Autoprotect just detects things in the background, and can sometimes screw things up . ie installing programs .

Are u using Norton Internet Security, the Anti virus is part of this, or just Nortons Antivirus??

And what version have u got?

The exact same thing happened to me a few months back, it was quite annoying so i uninstalled (which took 3 hours, oem)it and put avg on..

Hi Speedy, I,m using 2004 version and program scans emails and internet . A warning pops up to tell me i'm in peril because auto protect is disabled and my system is at risk .

360952 2005-06-04 06:53:00 i don't know why nortons does it, mayby virus damage or incorrect system file somewhere but i have seen nortons fall over for no reason what so ever. dispite having nortons myself for years, even i got rid of it. the last 2-3 years vers seem even more problematic than normal.

AVG is a good free av program. otherwise you could try some of the others such as nod32, bitdifender, avast etc.
