| 360932 | 2005-06-03 09:40:00 | Hi New PC is a week old and goes nicely. I've been playing Rise of Nations which has gone well until this morning. Tried to fire it up and it froze the PC completely. Mouse could still move but clicking it achieved nothing. The light stayed on in the DVD drive and I was unable to eject the disk. Even CTRL ALT DEL didn't achieve anything and I had to power it down using the front button. Same thing happened on my three attempts to start it up tonight. Other game disks go fine and I've loaded up AdAware so it's not the drive that's causing the problem. Any ideas? |

I have had this problem for a long time, and spent ages trying to fix it, only to give up in disgust and play minesweeper instead! Actually, I take that back, I hope it IS that simple, so I can play! Wow, and exclamation mark after every sentance! |

| 360939 | 2005-06-04 02:58:00 | Progress. It seems to start OK if I insert the CD and just let it do it's autorun thing instead of using the desktop shortcut. Perhaps uninstalling and reinstalling might fix this but I can live with waiting a little longer while it does it the autorun way. Metla. Tried to insert CD in crack and sit down as you suggested. Unable to sit down all the way though. Error message I received was 'Invalid media type ... try a memory key'. :blush: |

| 360940 | 2005-06-04 03:04:00 | A no-cd crack is a replacement EXE that bypasses all the cd-checks and just barrels on through and loads the game. Personally I replace the EXE the minute I have installed a game, Will not for a second put up with all that delay, spinning up and spinning down, wear and tear, and launch issues that go hand in hand with a disc check. It's not my problem if somebody else is stealing their software. |
