360898 2005-06-03 07:05:00 Greetings,

The above error appeared after I logged in on my Asus A2 (2.6GHz) laptop which runs XP Home.
I Googled the error but there were references only in languages I do not understand.
There's nothing in the error log. Does anyone know what this error means please?
Thank you

360900 2005-06-03 22:20:00 I've posted your prob in an Asus Newsgroup. I'll see if I get a reply.

I would check the ASUS site for FAQ for this laptop, or send ASUS an email
(altho I wouldnt hold my breath)! They dont always reply.

360901 2005-06-03 22:27:00 Thank you Speedy Gonzales!! I really appreciate your help. Y'see it's a fairly new laptop and I've used the battery only when we had no power in last week's floods.(We were so lucky - apart from THE most exhilarating trip home we suffered no damage) It worked fine then and since then, this error has not appeared again.
I'd love a link to a useful asus forum - I haven't been able to find one and support seems to be non-existent. Mind you, I'm happy with the laptop; it's a little ripper. I've never seen this error before and there's no mention of it in the asus manual. (Yes. I read it).(Yes. I'm boring.... or bored?)
Thank you anyway. Much appreciated friend.
Happy days
k

360902 2005-06-03 22:35:00 No worries :)

How are you running it now? By power or by battery??

Does it give u the same error if u plug it into a power point?? If u have power now?

What ISP are you with?? Most ISP's have newsgroups, where u can go for help . All you have to do, is go to your ISP's homepage . And see if they support newsgroups (this might be under help) on their homepage . .

And type the newsgroup server into something like Outlook/Outlook Express .

Once u get the right server, it'll download whatever is available . Then u can select whatever newsgroup, you're interested in . And post in it, when u have some kind of prob . Or reply to other users probs .

360903 2005-06-03 22:36:00 The manual has a phone number for Asus support, it goes straight through to a chap at Morning star, You paid for this service with the purchase of your laptop, Feel free to ring them.

Secondly, Any reason you can't ask the shop you bought it off? Or are we seeing the folly of buying from DSE?

Anyhow, Chances are its related to the Asus Powergear app, It's highly likely that it just failed to launch properly on bootup.

If the problem hasn't repeated then don't worry about it, If it does just get the latest Asus software for your laptop from the Asus site.

360904 2005-06-04 10:24:00 Thank you both very much.
Haven't seen that error since even though I rebooted several times both on mains and on battery. Let's hope you're right Metla and it failed to launch that one time. Time will tell no doubt.

Yeh, I guess you are seeing evidence of my folly. It was, for ONCE in my life, an impulsive purchase. I probably wouldn't buy there again, but on a positive note, I've learned a lot and have actually RTFM several times. No doubt, it'll happen again too. I did want an Asus. I also drive a Citroen. lol.

Have a good weekend and thanks again; I've learned a lot here.

360905 2006-02-26 01:49:00 Hi Chris ere, bought my Asus laptop from Dick Smiths-had the exact same problem
as you have had, open power policy file error kept appearing on startup,I live in England so taking back to shop is not an option.

I called the service people, that did'nt help, but the message stopped appearing not long after that for some reason, that was over a year ago now,it has reappeared recently-sometimes if the laptop freezes on me,I remove the battery and turn the power off if I'm getting nowhere,I think that causes it,asus must know it's a problem but I've missed their response to it,it's annoying I know,I just click ok and get on with things,I hope it dissapears soon, hope that helps.

360906 2006-02-26 05:19:00 Interesting chrissyboy. Thanks. I haven't seen that window in months but the error appeared again last week, but this time it denotes a dead battery. O well.....Starting the search for a new one.........
Stay warm over there!

360907 2008-02-06 10:12:00 Hey guys.

To solve this problem you need to remove Power4gear and reinstall if possible=)
