| 360546 | 2005-06-02 05:54:00 | Hi all, I have a TV in my living room (i am based in New Zealand) which is connected to Sky TV (we have a sky dish and a decoder). I want to put a pc and tv in another room and want to watch sky in there as well as use the PC. I realise I can't change channells on Sky and will be dictated by whatever the main TV is on, but other than that I can't work out what kind of cable to use, or where a TV card comes into the situation on my PC (thought this would save room and money). I have heaps of 75ohm Coax cable but can't work out what i would do at the other end. I can't work out any of it really. Help required by any knowing person out there. Many thanks, Alison |

And if the decoder has a video out or a 5 pin plug or something on it, it MIGHT work, if u have a tuner like the leadtek expert or deluxe. And the leadtek program, which has a cvbs/s-video option in it. What TV tuner is installed? Or is it external? |

| 360548 | 2005-06-02 06:06:00 | What is the conceptual connection you are making between the PC and the TV? The PC stands alone, unless you want to watch TV on that too . Otherwise all you need to get the Sky signal to the second TV is a two way splitter, a short 75 ohm extension lead with a plug on each end, and a long 75 ohm extension lead, again with a plug on each end . Plug the lead that currently goes into your TV into the input socket on the splitter and the two extensions into the two output sockets . The original TV should continue as before, and if you tune the second TV to the correct channel you will receive whatever is showing on the first TV . I get the feeling somehow that this may not be the answer you are looking for, but it's a start . Cheers Billy 8-{) |

I am not sure what you mean by tuner, but I have a Pace DSR600 sky decoder box, and it has lots of empty connections on the back of varying types. It has a large multipin (scart maybe???) plug that has a lead that divides into three which goes into the back of three holes on the TV. I have not purchased the TV card for the PC yet. I don't understand what part the card plays in getting the picture to the monitor screen of the TV. I realise I haven't been much help here, but I am persistent if nothing else. Thanks again |

| 360550 | 2005-06-02 06:19:00 | Hi Billy, Thanks .... and it was part of what I needed to know, as I am looking at the options of either a second TV or watching TV on the PC. You kindly covered one of the two for me. Many thanks, Alison |

| 360551 | 2005-06-02 06:24:00 | I take it, this is Sky digital . Whatever program u get once u get the tuner, it depends on whether the program can scan for the digital Sky signal/s . Depending on what tv tuner u get, some tuners have video in on them, so they can display signals, and sound from external devices (ie: VCR's) . So, you can record from them . It may or may NOT work with a Sky digital decoder . I haven't got Sky to try it . If u want to watch a separate channel, any tuner will do . All it needs is an aerial connection, to an outside aerial . For a better signal . |

Thanks again Hi again Billy, I just looked over the TV again and due to the lead that goes from the sky decoder to the TV ending up with three wires (audio R & L and video ) I can't put a co-ax splitter. This is why I am a bit stuck. Although the TV does have some TV out sockets, but once again they are three small pins (not co-ax). This is where I get stuck. |

| 360553 | 2005-06-02 06:46:00 | To all of you reading this... I had not considered the quality of viewing TV through my monitor and am now wondering if I am not better to have a stand alone TV in that room and forget connection with the PC. What I have just read on the net indicates it is not as good to watch as a separate TV. Does anyone know either way on this please. | Alison4004 (8251) | ||
| 360554 | 2005-06-02 06:56:00 | If u want a separate TV apart from watching Sky Digital, a tv tuner is just as good as any other. (It will give u the normal channels, besides sky channels). And it'll be cheaper, than buying another TV (if u havent got 2 TV's). All you need is an aerial for it. |

| 360555 | 2005-06-02 07:11:00 | thanks for your patience Speedy.... i have a mental block over this one. i am not intending to be obtuse, it is just coming across that way. But i think i am verrrrry slowly getting it now .... are you talking about buying one of those separate tv tuners that you use with a monitor .... or a pc tuner card that goes into the motherboard itself? and no, i don't have a second tv as yet. |
