360998 2005-06-04 03:40:00 Speedy I respect your intelligence, but I have no clue what you said. I'm like one of those dudes that knows how to click and use the internet. BIOS <-- I read a little bit on it. Any set of steps to check it its on auto?> gok1025 (8268)
360999 2005-06-04 03:47:00 Depending on what your motherboard is, pressing F1, the delete key or F10 takes u into the BIOS. As soon as u boot the system up.

This is where u can check whether the ide devices are on AUTO or not. And what IDE connections they're on (Primary or Secondary IDE Master or Slave).

361001 2005-06-04 04:00:00 Ok, this is what I saw at start up.
F2 = setup
F12 = bootmenu

something like that.

361003 2005-06-04 04:11:00 With your limited knowledge, you'd be better to take it to a shop and get them to diagnose the problems for you, or get someone who knows a bit about them to come round and give you a hand before you do some real damage. bartsdadhomer (80)
361004 2005-06-04 04:13:00 well you may be right but, I did manage to switch it to auto :D, should I reinstall now :) gok1025 (8268)
361005 2005-06-04 04:21:00 If the dvds are now on AUTO in the BIOS. Reboot and see if they appear in Windows now. Speedy Gonzales (78)
361006 2005-06-05 16:24:00 nope nothing :-/ gok1025 (8268)
361007 2005-06-05 21:36:00 If you are running XP you can try this fix to restore CD drives to 'My Computer'
The fix only works if the upper and lower filters are corrupt in the registry
It won't do any harm even if it doesn't work, but it's worth a try.
It's worked for me in the past, but I didn't check if they still showed in device manager or not so not sure if it will fix your problem or not
