360966 2005-06-04 00:43:00 Expensive?

Que oldtimer with stories of paying $8000 for 4mb of ram, Having to wait 46 weeks while it was manufactured in some exotic location, Travelling for 4 days on the back of a horse drawn wagon to meet the delivery ship and then scratch building the comp for it to go in with just 3 fig leaves, a cocunut husk, a broken AM radio and a sheep.

You youngsters of today, no idea at all. ;)
Wel Mr Metla we dnt get payed like u adults do. our hourly rate is less than 8 bucks thats why it may seem expensive to us. And about back in the olden days, where did that come from i was just wondering weather why is SDRAM so expensive when DDR Technology has comeout thanks to chrisqwert he explained it to me. ( Srry didnt mean to be rude) no hard feelings.
Anywayz back in 20th century. My board has a 168 pin socket does this mean it can handle single sided rams and double sided rams?.

360967 2005-06-04 01:27:00 You don't get paid like adults do?

Hmm....as an adult I have a mortgage, a mountain of bills, 3 people to feed, cloth and supply with entertainment and pocket change, 2 cars to run. Lucky if I get $20 a week from my pay.

I would love to step back and be awash in the relief of low pay and no responcibilites. Enjoy it while you can.

360968 2005-06-04 02:35:00 $102 for 256MB is expensive?

In 1992, a 1MB, 30 pin SIMM, memory stick cost $120 . A 256k x4 DIL chip cost around $15 .

About 1978, a 4kB board cost around $300 .

Spoiled rotten, you modern lot . Mumble, mumble, grumble, mumble . :groan: ;)

Eight dollars an hour!? Is this at the local supermarket? I find it quite sad that too many teenagers don't know how to find proper decent work -or should I say, are not able to right a proper CV to acceptable standard.

I started right from scratch at $9 an hour aged 15... many of my friends still work minimum wage $7.20 -I, in many cases with less skills, but able to show my skills through a proper CV, added with a bit of confidence, have been paid close to $20 an hour somethings. So... moral of the story - no excuses for earning less 'because I'm a teenager'

360974 2005-06-04 12:50:00 I'd be wary of any SD RAM you buy these days, especially if it costs less than $150. I bought a generic 128MB stick for $50, and it just doesn't work in anything short of Duron 1300. Some don't boot with it, some page fault, some show red in memtest.

It'd be worth your while to put that $100 towards a new PC. I went for 5 years with my P266 w/ 32MB RAM, and that was after big Telecom had decided that it wasn't good enough for its employees.

It's expensive now because not many make it (if any at all), and there is no demand. So they have to sell less at more.

As far as jobs are concerned, I consider the supermarket to be a) slave labour and b) worse than macdonalds. I, also a teenager, have committed myself to a life of isolation and prolongued psychological disfiguration - therefore I see no need to spend time applying for jobs with a CV. Having said that, I'm perfectly happy with my job.
