| 360591 | 2005-10-04 07:35:00 | I don't use any backup program but just copy the the files I want backed up to my second hard drive and burn to CD when I remember. Hi Foxy When you burn to CD presumably you must use a program ? Otherwise how do you get the CD to accept a paste please ? Misty :waughh: |

| 360592 | 2005-10-04 19:35:00 | Hi Misty, Yes, I use Nero to burn my data to CDs and/or DVDs . Nero came with my CD writer and Nero Express with my DVD writer and all I (usually) do is follow the wizard to create the type of CD that I require . To select files to burn Nero presents an Explorer type of window whereby I can navigate to and drag the files I want over to Nero's window and when it indicates that the CD or DVD is full I just tell Nero to burn it . I am not really sure what you mean by "getting the CD to accept a paste" . Could you be a bit more specific on what you are trying to do? |

Hi Foxy I see what you mean - 'copy' is actually burning using a program (Nero) but not using Nero Backitup . Originally I thought you might be meaning using something like the old Adaptec Direct CD, which prepared the CD and then you could just drag and drop straight through Explorer . Basically I suppose that I have a bit of a worry about relying on a program as an intermediary . In the days of floppies you just could copy . Anyway, I should not worry as Nero is so ubiquitous that nothing should go wrong . I will probably start just burning using Nero (like you) and stop using Nero backitup . Many thanks for bearing with me through my tortuous thought patterns (again !) Misty ;) |

| 360594 | 2005-10-05 23:46:00 | Hi Misty, Aha, now that I have re-read through my previous posts I think I understand why I got you confused . I have never looked at Nero's BackItUp so I can't offer any advice or opinion on it but my definition of backup programs are those that do all the backup work for you . After performing a complete backup they can monitor the files that have changed and automatically perform "incremental" back ups of only the changed files . I don't use one of those programs - my "backup" method is just to copy the whole lot, changed and unchanged files, each time . In my situation Nero only comes into the equation because it burns the files I want saved to CDs as backups . The only thing you need to be concerned about if you follow my example is to make sure that the files are verified after burning . You can set Nero to check this in its options prior to burning and I also run the CD through my "CDCheck" program as well, just to be sure . Opening a few of the files and checking their contents also puts my mind at rest . There is nothing worse than formatting a hard drive then discovering that you cannot open some important files restored from a CD . :stare: |
