2005-06-03 04:31:00 | Hi I have just upgraded from 98 Second edition to XP, and in trying to re-install my printer (HP Deskjet 610C) I get the following Message. "The driver you are trying to install is not compatible with Windows XP. Please contact the manufacturer for an updated driver" How do you go about doing this, I should probably point out that I am a reasonably old senior citizen. So nothing too tecvhnical please Thanks divad

2005-06-03 04:37:00 | from softwarepatch.com "If you have Windows XP, the driver should already be on your system. If you have plugged your printer into the PC and turned it on but still have no printer showing in the Control Panel's 'Printers and Faxes', here is how HP explains how to find the driver. Don't forget to plug in the printer to your PC and turn it on. Now follow these steps: 1. Click Start, then Control Panel. 2. Click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Printers and Faxes. 3. In Printer Tasks, click Add a printer. 4. Click Next. 5. Select Local, then remove the check mark from Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer. 6. Click Next. 7. Select Port Parallel connection is usually LPT1 USB connection is usually USB001 Click Next. 8. Select HP from the Manufacturer list. 9. Select the printer model from the printer list, and then click Next. 10. Select Yes if this printer is the default printer, or select No if it is not. Click Next to continue. 11. Select No to skip the test page, and then click Next. 12. Click Finish to complete the installation. NOTE: If prompted for a Windows disk in Step 12, do not use the disk that came with the printer, use the Windows XP disk or the recovery disk that came with the computer. 13. If prompted for a Windows disk, insert the appropriate Windows or PC Recovery disk (not the disk that came with the printer) and follow the instructions on the screen. Once the driver has been installed, it will be listed in the Printers window (Start, then Printers and Faxes). " Would be nice to know if this works :)

2005-06-03 08:25:00 | Further to previous advice HP 670C Manual advises (A) Turn on Printer, then turn on computer (B)Close any screensaver or other software programs that are open (Antivirus, firewall etc) before installing the printing software. The driver and 610c software for XP can be downloaded from the HP site if the suggestions above do not get the 610C running.

2005-06-04 01:40:00 | I have that printer running on my Windows 98 computer which is networked to this Win XP PC and have no problems printing from this machine. As the others have said just let Win XP find a driver for it. | FoxyMX (5) | |

So nothing too tecvhnical please Thanks divad Many thanks to all who took time to reply. I'm happy to say that the printer and XP are suddenly compatable. How I did it I don't know. but it is going and that is all I asked for. Thanks again folks I spent longer trying to figure out how to reply to you all than I did fixing the original Problem Divad |
