| 361338 | 2005-06-05 12:43:00 | Having probs getting all computers on this (sal.neoburn.net) network. I can only get computers 10.1.1.10/20/30 on the net if switch number two is left out. So the network works with only one switch, how can I use switches to extend this network, all the hardware is setup like the picture, but as soon as I try to add the second switch no luck. Have tried DHCP also. The switches are Genius 5 and 8 port cheapies. ADSL Modem is D-Link 302 that xtra supplied. Computers all run XP Pro SP2 |

Mine does but then it has intelligent sensing on cable use so it knows when to swap the uplinks to the switches over. You may to plug it into the uplink port or maybe use crossover cables between switches. |

Try using the 1st switch as a 'masterswitch' and hook switch 2 & 3 directly to it Not sure about the "uplinks to connect the switches", they are cheap and the ports are labled 1 to 5, no wlan or anything else, just 1 to 5. The computers connected to the first switch go. When I add the second switch the 30 computer cannot hook up. I will worry about 40/50 computers after I can get 30 connected through the switch. |

Normally a 5 port will actually have 6 ports and 2 of them are shared. It may be Port 1 or Port 5. As yours does not have an extra then it may actually only be a 4 port swtch and that 5th port is the uplink one. On mine 8 port one it has 9 and 8 & 9 are shared. 9 is labelled Uplink and usually goes to the ADSL Modem/Router. However as I said I have an intelligent ADSL Modem/Router and it knows what configuration to put the port into and I can use any of the ports or port 9. I cant use port 8 & 9 togeather though. Maybe time to get the manual out and check on what port does what? It should go Modem -> uplink port (with non-cross over cable) on first switch, Any port (except shared uplink port) -> uplink port (again non-cross over) on second switch, etc. |

| 361345 | 2005-06-06 07:35:00 | These (www.geniusnet.com.tw) are the switches in use. Auto sensing so again it should work. Sorry no more help from me then. All I can say is mine does work with 2 switches and really the only difference being I use 192.168.0.xx IP range. |

| 361346 | 2005-06-06 08:13:00 | Have you tried swapping SW1 with SW2 and accessing the net again to ensure SW2 isn't faulty | bartsdadhomer (80) | ||
| 361347 | 2005-06-06 10:33:00 | You say you can't get them on the net - but can you still access the other PCs? Can you ping them? Can you ping the modem? | Growly (6) | ||
