2005-06-04 08:06:00 | Hi All Hope I am in the right place for some help! Since installing SP2 my outlook express 6 jpg file attachments do not open on a double click. This error comes up: The file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel. At the top of this error in the 'blue bar', it has C:/Documents & Settings/"me"/Local Settings/Temporary Internet Files/ContentIE5/UDC....thats all I can see. I have Kodak Easyshare software and use that as my default viewer. If I associate the jpg, jpeg etc extensions with windows picture and fax viewer, all is ok but once I change it to my preferred viewer (Kodak), the above errors comes up. I have uninstalled Kodak and reinstalled. Still same error. I have tried Microsofts HotFix 893048, still the error occurs. When looking at my pictures via windows explorer, doubling clicking will bring up what ever program I associate with fine - no problem there but I do want kodak not windows viewer and changing jpg etc to kodak causes the error to happen in outlook express! Any help would be much appreciated. Jessy Jules :badpc:

2005-06-04 08:20:00 | Is the option under security in OE do not allow attachments to be saved unticked?? As SP2, will block u from getting attachments, if this is ticked . And have u tried saving the attachment first, then tried to view it?

2005-06-04 09:20:00 | Hi Thanks for reply. Yes it is unticked, I can view if my jpg's are associated in control panel folder options with the windows viewer but not with Kodak -that is when the error comes up. And yes, I can save the attachment and view it that way too, but the point is I would like to view it in outlook express with kodak software before saving it. I use to be able to pre sp2! Thanks Jessy

2005-06-04 09:26:00 | Dunno then . Maybe thats just something Outlook Express / SP2 does, and u cant change it . You just have to save it before u can view it with the Kodak program .

2005-06-05 02:00:00 | Hi Again, I have installed Microsoft Outlook and the error does not occur - woohoo, but I prefer Outlook Express. I have tried everything possible including searching extensively on the net ie Microsoft Knowledge Base, Kodaks Web Site... There must be something, somewhere, somehow to fix this annoying error. Any ideas from anyone!!! Jessy PS I uninstalled Outlook Express and Reinstalled, error still occurs.

2005-06-05 02:28:00 | The problem likely lies with the Kodak software, and an incompatability in a .dll file somewhere. In my experience all camera supplied software should carry a health warning. None of it is very robust.

2005-06-05 03:19:00 | Yep I agree but at one stage it was working fine. I'm not so sure now that it is SP2 causing the conflict...perhaps something else. I read somewhere that XP has a compatibility wizard somewhere, anyone know where cos where they suggested I couldn't find it. | JessyJules (8281) | |
2005-06-05 03:20:00 | I suspect the problem is to do with the way the different applications consider themselves to be the "default" for various file types. Might it be that JPG files are looked for as ".jpeg, .jpg", ".jpg", ".jpg, .jpeg" depending on the application. The problem seems to be triggered by changing the default. Does the way you access the viewer allow use of "Open With", rather than having the default altered?

2005-06-05 03:42:00 | Howdy Graham (Found Compatibility wizard by the way, not really what I thought it would do!) Does the way you access the viewer allow use of "Open With", rather than having the default altered? If you mean by this, manually going to a picture file in windows explorer, right clicking it brings up a list of which shows; open with Easyshare (and other options) as well as Open with - Kodak, Paint, Windows Picture & Fax Viewer, Interent Explorer - or Choose Program which you have a selection including the above . This area is ok, its in the outlook express program when doubling clicking the error appears . What I am more concerned about, after reading it somewhere (now I can't find it!) is the blue bar at the top which has; C:/Documents & Settings/"me"/Local Settings/Temporary Internet Files/ContentIE5/UDC . . . . thats all I can see . I don't think this is right . I have d'l and installed a program from www . dougknox . com referring to jpg's corruption, then I try to double click my attachment and the following error comes up: This action is only valid for products that are currenlty installed . This error is in the micosoft knowledge - article 893048 for which I called and got the hotfix . Once completing this hotfix, the original error occurred!!! I am not lost as to where to go to next . Jessy
