To find the built-in usage tracker, tap the Settings icon -> choose General -> tap Usage -> and scroll to the bottom of the page. Look in the Cellular Network Data section and total the data sent and received to get your current usage. |

If he has wifi in his house then it would be more sense to turn the wifi on on the iPad. |

I normally get my fiancee to explain any phone or iPad stuff to my parents as she is better at communicating the techie stuff in non techie terms than I am. My parents are smart people they are very conservative adopters when it comes to moving to new techie things. |
