1372991 2014-04-18 01:57:00 I need a painter in Christchurch.
Thinking someone that uses a air-brush might be best but automotive could work also.

I need one of my boats repainted in a high gloss pearl paint.
The overall job is about the 1m by 1/2 a metre surface area.

Any recommendations gratefully received.

1372994 2014-04-18 13:15:00 Practice makes perfect, so get a rattle can or two filled with your chosen colour and have at it. Instructions are on the cab, and even more helpful on Google / YouTube. You can practice by painting the cat. ;) R2x1 (4628)
1372995 2014-04-19 00:11:00 Is it a clear Lexan body shell that you want painted or is it Fiberglass or some other solid material? Zippity (58)

It is remarkably easy. Follow R2x1's advice (probably less the cat) and you will aquire yet another skill to go along with your soldering. If you do try the DIYS route read the instructions on the can and it is better to go for 2 or 3 thin coats to do the job. Trying to do it in one go inevitably results in runs and blobs which are hard to fix. Guess how I found that out :)

1372998 2014-04-21 00:47:00 The shell is moulded plastic with a fibreglass layer inside the hull, its "solid" but not rigid.

I got lucky :)

The guy that is helping me with the repairs has agreed to paint it, but even better, teach me how to do it as he goes :).
Win Win.

1373000 2014-05-16 10:13:00 I would like to recommend you to first have a local search. You can opt to ask from your neighborhood who recently had a painting job done. Apart from this, visit some local painting organization and have a look on their portfolio, make a selection on the basis of their history and past work. All the best!! williambrown (17237)
