2014-04-14 02:47:00 | A tough ask to not carry a wallet. My phone has NFC don't usually use my ASB card thou :) | Nomad (952) | |

2014-04-14 03:10:00 | It's not much different from what I'm doing now with my payWave (and HOP) card, which is to keep them in my phone case, which has card sleeves, and pay/tag without opening it... | pcuser42 (130) | |

I'm guessing that banks are trialling different paths at the moment because there is no clear leader to follow. If they were to integrate it into the phone, my guess is they would be using iBeacon. |

2014-04-14 04:41:00 | ...when most phones already have NFC available? Right... Android phones do, iPhones don't because Apple is developing the iBeacon technology which doesn't require NFC chips. I think the catch is that at least in NZ, neither technology has really gained mass market acceptance so banks and big companies are exploring all options to see which takes off first. So which technology is going to win?.........Not sure, but it would appear at this stage that iBeacon offers the most customisation for banks, retailers and marketing in general compared to NFC. So who knows where its going to end up because Android has a bigger over all market share if you combine all brands of phones together - but not all those brands of phones have equal capabilities or run the same version of the OS that is able to handle NFC. We will just have to wait and see.

2014-04-14 04:50:00 | NFC style payments may end up being like another type of credit card where there is no single leader, you just go with the technology that your phone is designed to handle - much like you choose which ever type of credit or debit card your bank offers you, or you go without if that's what suits your style of money management. | Webdevguy (17166) | |
2014-04-14 05:46:00 | Wonder if ASB itself knows what it's up to? My ASB Visa Debit Card payWave works great. However, my ASB Visa Credit Card doesn't have that (Pay Wave) facility and ASB claim I need to upgrade to a Platinum Visa before I can have PayWave ... So most of the time I use my Onecard with Visa payWave, or Mastercard with paypass ... Signed Confused in Ellerslie :illogical
