1372315 2014-04-09 02:10:00 When Kim's residence was raided all his financial assets for the Company that manages his property were seized by the Government. This meant that any debts to this Company went unpaid. Under Company Law Dot Com was not liable for the debts personally.

Kim has realized that a lot of his creditors are small firms who can not afford to carry large debts caused by a gutless John Key who will not tell the Yanks to back off!

I can not speak on behalf of others, but Kim paid us in full out of his own pocket. He didn't have to.

I am not a Kiwi, but if I was I would expect to be a resident of New Zealand protected by the Government from the likes of the FBI and illegal surveillance and raids.

This government does not support local industry, nor does it protect the residents. A labour government under Cunliffe wouldn't be any better.

1372317 2014-04-09 03:05:00 It's been a farce all round but good on Him for paying his bills. Doesn't make him squeaky clean despite the ridiculous over the top police actions.
Thing is we all know what sites like his were used for, Himself included. The question about legality is a tricky one which is why these cases stretch on so long but to my mind he was deliberately profiting off dodgy practices and that's why the authorities are after him. They can't do him for copyright infringement directly but they are really trying to make something stick. He may not have broken any laws that remains to be seen.

In reality the true criminals are the people using these services for illegal purposes, but it seems like nobody wants to go after what is effectively a large portion of the general public. Instead they focus on the more obvious large targets trying to cut piracy off at the source. It seems to me if they want to target someone it should be the people who upload this stuff not the file sharing or web hosting sites they use or the people who download the stuff(although that's still more illegal than what Kim did I think).

1372320 2014-04-09 05:07:00 Just like that Hydroponics chain store selling supplies for growing dope

They thought they were doing nothing wrong either

Is there any Facebook page up for getting donations so Kim can get to the states to clear his name?

1372321 2014-04-09 06:12:00 What I want to know is, what has it got to to with the USA?
German citizen
New Zealand resident
Business in Hong Kong

How can he be extradited to USA? The crime, if any, was committed in Hong Kong. I doubt that he has done anything criminal deliberately targeted to the USA. Why don't they do the same to Google, You Tube etc, or are Americans beyond reproach?
Why doesn't John Key be a man and tell them to lay off New Zealanders? David Lange would have. If they must have a trial why not in New Zealand? He will not get a fair trial in USA. He will probably be sent to Cuba for life.

1372322 2014-04-09 07:26:00 I'll second what mzee and dugimodo said.

Yeah he may not be squeeky clean but it seems like they're just going after the largest most high-profile target possible...

Might lose some weight there, no?

1372324 2014-04-09 08:20:00 What I want to know is, what has it got to to with the USA? He's accused of various copyright infringements, much of them held by American companies I suspect.
