Ok both have adopted Pagan practices into them but as celebration of the birth and death of Christ I think they are the very definition of Christian holidays . True Christians don't celebrate either Christmas or Easter . What they do however is recognise, as said by Jesus himself, and remember his day of sacrifice which happens at around Easter time each year, and to give thanks for it .

1373059 2014-04-26 08:31:00 Oh true christians.. I thought they died out after stoning all their misbehaving children to death and burning all their women as witches.
Or do even the "True" christians pick and choose which parts of their guide book to follow. I suspect a lot of people who consider themselves christian embrace both holidays wholeheartedly and would take offence at being considered not "true" christians. Not me though, I consider myself an atheist, maybe an agnostic on a good day.

The only true christian holiday is the sabbath of course, the rest is just customs developed over the centuries as society evolved. I don't think the bible says anything about not working on any particular days other than sundays does it? Pagans of course pre-date public holidays as well so can't be held responsible either.

It's a day off, enjoy it. If you have religious beliefs you like to follow on those days do so if not just relax. No need to worry about the why of it all in my opinion.

This is news to me? I don't recall the non-celebration of holidays being a biblical thing?

All depends on how the particular flavour of christian interprets it.
And remember, the current dates are not really the actual dates of the supposed events anyway, they pinched the pagans dates to try and encourage them....

1373063 2014-04-27 04:41:00 I know this, but I'd love to see the verse that says "Don't celebrate Christmas" :-/ Chilling_Silence (9)

They didn't just steal the dates of these festivals but also the content, rabbits (actually meant to be hares) and decorated eggs were part of the pagan rituals for the Vernal Equinox the same as decorating trees for the Winter Solstice
