| 1372256 | 2014-04-09 03:10:00 | So you should toss your 5 yr old car cause it might need some work done as well? A car cost more. Get a 8yr old car. Use another 8yrs. Do the important stuff like oils and filter or pay to do it, tyres and brakes as required. But for the maintenance stuff that ought to just do ... DIY is great. But if not .. it adds up. $300 (?) annual service times 8 equals quite a bit if you're not getting a $15k car. Or even for those who might be able to do some DIY. 20yr old car. Needs a new timing belt / water pump as part of schedule or what ... $800. On a 20yr old car? And the risk of other potential stuff that could go wrong. |

If a scan was taking 2 hours its as obvious as the nose on your face - as a person can see it happening. Bit like saying cloning a drive can be done in 5 minutes when its obvious that its actually taking a LOT longer. Chill out mate. Your words "As for my charge, it was for $138. it actually took just over 6 1/2 hours of actual time," |

My car is a 1996. I throw them away when they need things like: Engine Transmission (but not necessarily gearbox) Anything else costing more than say $900. |

I think our current 1998 Camry had a new belt (the cheaper one - the one you can see standing there) and new pulleys was $250-350. That was just last year. Pretty sure the timing belt (if that is the one hidden inside) that was like $800 in the past we were quoted on before we sold the car. Well actually we probably did that some yrs before we sold it but the water pump was leaking I was told and that was like $600 if not mistaken. Edit. I have the bill here. Camry 1998. $430. $180 crank pulley , $24 drive belt, $15 freight, $19 power steering belt and then GST. 2hr labour $140. |

Your words "As for my charge, it was for $138. it actually took just over 6 1/2 hours of actual time," A suggestion nomad, if you are going to quote include the whole line or statement. If you read it again you will see theres a full stop at the end on $138. Most people who know how to read know thats a end of that section. And after that ( where your quote finished, the most important part was left out) "so if you look at it like that it was charged at $21 /hr. BUT that's not quite as it is, as I said I only charge for time I work, not scanning time." The in bold above is the important part. Love it how people only quote sections that they think they manipulate the answer -- not a journalist are you, thats the sort of thing they do ? Just as a reference: the 3 jobs I took back or did yesterday, each one insisted they paid more than I invoiced for (mainly because of the time jobs really took). One job I was at the persons place for 1 1/2 hours, only charged 1 hour, but they insisted they paid for the full time, lets say we got into a friendly disagreement and settled on 1 1/4 hours. |

| 1372265 | 2014-04-10 06:53:00 | I paid $5,000 for my 1994 Honda Accord US Wagon 6 years ago. It has never let me down. Apart from a couple of cam belts, balance belts & a water pump, air filter, oil changes & 1 set of tyres I have done nothing to it. Probably need brake pads soon, I don't drive on my brakes. I once bought a new car, it was a disaster! Apart from that I have never paid more than $5,000. You can pick up a very good car for $3,000. | mzee (3324) | ||
