Even then it's not 100% trashed, only if you don't have an EEPROM programmer and IC puller (or these days, a hot air rework tool). I've recovered several (and not just motherboards) without problem. Some devices (like routers) can have unit-specific code as well as the main firmware image, and that can be an issue if the chip dies or you accidentally wipe the whole thing... but it's not typically an issue with motherboards. |
