2014-04-21 08:10:00 | A truly horrifying transport accident, fortunately occurring in a region where the road alignment was designed by Dobbin. It was good to see the driver adhering to the owners manual and parking before sounding the Lucas horn, so it could at least be heard by a people up to 2 1/2 metres away given favourable conditions. (Favourable in this context means no other Commers, except inverted commers, within 12,000 KM.) ;) | R2x1 (4628) | |
2014-04-21 08:29:00 | Ipod say no more Sometims, but A LOT of other times some people are just plain idiots - Stupid. Earlier today went out, while on the way back looked about 6-7 people were walking along the footpath on the other side of the road, (so we had a good view of what was happening) roughly 40 mtrs away from the crossing, the whole lot of them simply stepped out onto the road to cross, Not one of them looked , and this was on a busy road --- luckily for them the guy in the car they stepped out in front of was awake, hit the brakes, the cars behind him had to do the same, just lucky there wasn't a pile up -- the idiots who simply stepped out looked at the poor guy and just carried on :groan: All the noise in the world wouldn't have helped

2014-04-21 09:09:00 | Definitely a case of people need to smarten the **** up. As you may know, I've done quite well out of the safety industry, But wrapping every damn thing in cotton wool is getting damn tiring. If you are so far up your own arse that you can't take the time to look at something before you walk into its path, then good job....roadkill.

2014-04-21 10:28:00 | Well said metla Think we've all seen it, people step out, then may look once part way across the road, or even worse, people who just back out of car parks, and only look at the way they will be going, Not whats possibly coming. Thats a little how it is down Queen street over here on a Friday night ( lots of takeaway shops) they jump in the cars and simply back out into traffic without looking -- Its a real Russian Roulette sometimes if some twit isn't going to back into ya.

2014-04-21 12:08:00 | A few years back I worked on the project to put buses through Manners Mall, During the project and in the immediate aftermath a number of people were hit by (silent) buses, there was an outcry. After a bit of number crunching it turns out it was inline with all other months for pedestrians struck by buses in the central city. Moral of the story, look out for buses, especially in god damn bus lanes.

2014-04-21 12:26:00 | And what did the WCC report say today? 80% of pedestrian accidents are caused by jaywalkers. I love it :) :) Cnr Andy Foster must be sh1tting himself now.

2014-04-21 12:28:00 | I can't imagine how blind people navigate the world, truly no sarcasm intended. That said if they can't cross the road safely because something is quiet they need a solution but why one that impacts every one else? I'm sure guide dogs are more aware of the "silent" electric cars than any sighted pedestrian. I remember an add from the vets office that says a dog can hear a spoken word on a beach up to 400M away, I think they can hear electric cars somehow. The Idea of an unassisted blind person crossing the street without a pedestrian crossing and no guide dog is quite frankly insane. sure they have a right to freedom etc but they must also accept the realities of their condition. Train the dogs better and don't let unaided blind people wander around on the roads. | dugimodo (138) | |
2014-04-21 12:58:00 | Next time you walk up to a road crossing with a button for the pedestrian crossing, slide you finger to the underside of the box, there is an indentation there, Just for the blind. And the rest of us should just do the right thing, ask them if they need a hand at road crossing. Though I doubt its something I do, because I cant recall ever having done so.

The worst ones are the runners who just keep running across the road without looking and the cyclists out side Carrington Tech who just rid across the crossing. Just have a look at the black tire marks as you approach the crossing of the drivers who have hit the breaks suddenly.. |
