1372604 2014-04-13 22:02:00 Yep, starting to get cooler in Wellington (top of a hill in Ngaio).
Seeing as I'm not allowed a dryer, and it's a 50/50 chance that the clouds lift away long enough for any washing to get dry, I'm considering converting the washing machine into an open place fire.

Why not? You use the thing maybe an hour to dry a load.
Way less than heating.......

One bedroom place, guess the owners don't want to modify the place to allow for a dryer

1372607 2014-04-14 02:02:00 I'm lazy, I use my dryer instead of the clothesline even during summer half the time.
90 mins once a week @ 25c a KWh even if it was a 2KW dryer (it's less than that) = 3KWh a week or approx $3 a month. I can afford it.
If you have one of those households that's doing washing every 2nd day or more though it probably adds up.

The worst thing about a clothes dryer is the water it pumps out if you have in inside and not vented, a far bigger issue than the power consumption.
I can't vent mine due to the way my house is constructed so I vent the whole room instead with an extractor fan.

Mounted on high wall above the washer?

That's where the cupboards where I store my homebrew are :-)

Don't like dryers in the house anyway....fluff. What about in the garage?

1372611 2014-04-14 06:22:00 Don't know what the temp is in Taupo at the moment, just know it is cool enough to put on warm vest over t-shirt.

I have a dryer for sale, $40 if anyone is interested. (pick up of course.) Haven't used it in ages but tested it the other day, still goes good!

1372612 2014-04-14 09:24:00 I do not use a drier because it wears clothing out. I prefer to line dry washing. Bobh (5192)
1372613 2014-04-14 11:48:00 3.8 degrees in Invercargill at the moment (11:45 pm). Expecting 16 degrees tomorrow.

Yes and a nice frost Sunday morning.
