1372352 2014-04-09 22:39:00 Some irons come with tips that are far too small/thin, you need a bigger 'chisel' shape tip that retains the heat for soldering connectors.
An old ashtray with a $2 goldylocks (steel wool) inside it makes a excellent tip cleaner. Jaycar sells these tip cleaners ready 2 go.
Buy a roll of solder, not just $10 worth of solder.

Ive a Hakko as well. Excellent investment.
I also have had a few of the $40 irons, some literally didnt get hot enough to melt the solder, even the big 90W+ cheapies.


Also avoid the cheap Hobbyking/ebay clones
