1372132 2014-04-08 01:42:00 XP is legendary, and will live on long after people have forgotten what Vistatrash and Metro ever were.

...legendary like Windows 95? :p

There IS a difference between "legendary" and "notorious". For M$, legendary is the small pile, the effluent mountain is the notorious slag pile. ;)
(Most M$ is ideally suited for Nortons, but possibly a bit slower and less useful...)

1372134 2014-04-08 06:13:00 :D Windows XP is dead

Will you keep your voice down, please?! If The Boss hears you he will want to know why I haven't upgraded his PC and then I will have to build him a new system too and it will take me another five years to get him comfy with Win 8.1. WinXP will do him fine for another year or three yet.

1372135 2014-04-08 06:37:00 So...as XP is now unsupported, what security should be used. Nortons, Mcafee, Nod32. Will the yobbos really attaxk XP or is this just scaremongering.

I have an old PC & an old laptop, I doubt either of thse will be grunty enough to run W8. PJ

Certainly neither of the first two! Nod32 would be good for as long as they still support XP.

Attacks against XP are unlikely to increase from their current level, unless some new 0-day security hole is found - then with the number of XP machines still out there, it would be a worthwhile target.

1372137 2014-04-08 07:19:00 I was running a single core, double thread CPU ie 2004 model, was a 3.0Ghz with demo Win8.1 and it was fine. 1GB of RAM I believe. But I didn't install other software. General web use seemed fine. Dell GX280 I think it was. The only thing was Youtube videos was not smooth :) Nomad (952)
1372138 2014-04-08 08:54:00 I can tell you both my XP machines are still running so XP certainly isn't dead. gary67 (56)

1372140 2014-04-08 19:56:00 It is not dead, the only new thing is MS no longer produce updates for it.

And so what? Never has an update ever prevented anyone from having an infected machine.
Never has it improved Windows any......they have been doing this since the early versions of windows, all the new ones, out and they still have to make more updates??

Shows what a waste of time it is.

I have never updated any version of Windows ever, never had a problem either.
I do of course, use 3rd party anti-malware and common sense.

And...I have used the SPs.

And...I have used the SPs. The service packs include previously released security, performance, and stability updates for Windows - so there have been updates installed :) Only not the ones after service packs.
