| 1386575 | 2014-10-22 06:52:00 | As it says above landline wont ring but internet works. But if I connect the phone direct to the outlet its fine. If I use a splitter internet works but phone wont. Have tried 2 different splitters and an old landline phone plus the cordfree phone we normally use same result. They were working on rewiring our street on Monday phone was still fine until today. Any ideas ? | Clod (7853) | ||

| 1386577 | 2014-10-22 07:26:00 | Maybe both splitters are faulty, if you're with spark and pay the wiring maintenance fee just report the fault and let them sort it out. If not try another splitter. How many outlets/ phones? unplug everything and try the phone on each outlet. Is the phone working at all apart from not ringing or completely dead? When it works is it noisy at all? It is possible it's a cable or wiring fault still, strange things can happen when one of the two wires has a poor or no connection at some point in the cct, and yes a router will sometimes work with half the pair not actually connected. |

Any ideas ? Not uncommon. Loss of continuity of copper wires. In some circumstances the high frequency broadband can apparently jump the gap but phone needs current flow to keep it alive. |

| 1386580 | 2014-10-25 08:48:00 | Turn out it was some connection doodad that enabled the old phones to ring. Something to do with new phones use 2 wires but old phones needed a 3rd wire to enable it to ring- it was shorting out. Didn't even no it was there till playing around. | Clod (7853) | ||

We used to, but when we upgraded I pulled it apart as a kid and now most of it is lost. Kicking myself now because it would be fun to have one these days and confuse people. |
