| 362156 | 2005-06-08 11:57:00 | Hi all, Just got a SPEEDCOM External modem for my uncles computer, and plugged it into his new machine. It is another spawn of HP piece-a-****, with a new P4 (i'm guesing LGA775 becos it has PCI-E), 512mb DDR400 (dual channel - but CL3!) yknow the usually. Lacks a modem itself, however has onboard everything else. Now the external modem gives us a few errors, it connects VIA serial port... Whenever we try to connect it gives us errors 629 to 721, remote computer not responding, an attached device is not functioning, and if does connect (only connects on orcon, not maxnet) it is at 4.8Kb/s... not 4.8KB/s.... 4.8 kbps!!! Anyone know what the problem is? OS is WinXP Pro - SP2 (YUK!) and I have looked for IRQ conflicts, adjusted some settings yadda yadda yadda but I can't get it working. Oh yeah and it was on an extension lead to a brand new hooked up ph jack, sharing with only a fax and another internal modem... we have yet to test it by itself... |

| 362160 | 2006-02-17 05:58:00 | It is a very interesting issue, can you tell me the brand of external modem? If there are differences between 2 different ISP's it is often as a result of a different dialup chassis, or possibly the firmware (and how it talks to the ISP's modem chassis). What location are you in also? This can impact the chassis that Orcon use (I worked for them for about 4 years) Warmest regards, Jay Best. |

| 362161 | 2006-02-17 06:26:00 | 4.8 kbps is normall......quite good in fact. have you run any other pc with a modem in that place before? what are the phone lines like? also make sure no other modem software is installed. even tho it wasn't shipped with a modem there standard OS and apps moight include a modem driver and application which can cause a bit of havoc. any other software (ie not from HP) been installed? antivirus? firewall? antispyware? |
