| 361869 | 2005-06-07 20:28:00 | I have a HP Pavilion 6327 running 98se.Grand daughter crashed it.On rebooting it goes to blue screen, runs scandisk then goes into thorough scandisk where it gets about a third through and says there was an error running scandisk exe and stops, then tries to go through it all again.I ran a utility that says I have an error in my mbr so went to dos, tried scandisk/mbr but no change. Any thoughts,Max. | Max (8180) | ||

| 361873 | 2005-06-08 07:51:00 | It could in fact be a corrupt fat boot sector which is different to the mbr. The good news is that the fat(32) filesystem creates a backup of the boot sector. The bad news is that it is not easy to repair, and there are not many programs out there that can. Testdisk is one that I can recommend though, it is very good and it is free. You can find it here (www.cgsecurity.org) Before you use it, make sure to read the documentation (www.cgsecurity.org) thoroughly |
