362887 2005-06-11 01:49:00 Hi I'm wanting to know if it is possible to put a 512mb SDRAM 168 pin and a 2.6GHz processor into my computer. But are those items compatible with my motherboard it's a:
Intel Celeron 800Mhz
Win2000
L1 code cache is 16kb
L1 data cache is 16kb
L2 cache 128kb
Bus type PCI
Bus width 32-bit
effective clock 33 mhz
real clock 33 mhz
Bandwidth 133Mb/s
Ram slots 2DIMM
Motherboard chipset PLE133T
Please advise if not compatible what cheap replacements can be done do make it compatible?!?!?!?!?!?

362888 2005-06-11 01:58:00 You need to post the Motherboard Brand & Model, not the chipset as a large number of boards use this VIA chipset
Download Everest Home and it will identify your board
http://www.lavalys.com/
Unlikely your board will upgrade from an 800 to 2.6 especially if the new CPU is a 333FSB
More info will help

362889 2005-06-11 02:08:00 its a socket 370 which mean a 2.6ghz cpu is not going to fit. you are limited to p3 and socket370 celerons. a p3 @ 1ghz to 1.3ghz would be the fastest cpu you MIGHT be able to run.

the actuall make and model will determine exactly what the max cpu and ram it can take.

Some motherboards can use sd and ddr ram, but not all can. And its not a good idea to mix sd ram and ddr ram even if the mobo supports both. Use one or the other.

BUT i think your mobo supports SD ram, only. DDR ram wont fit on your motherboard.

362892 2005-06-11 11:02:00 your mobo users sdram only and supports up to 1 gig ie 2x 512 meg sticks. most likly they will have to be double sided.

There are no boards that will let you use both memory types simultaneously

Your best bet is to pick up a new 1Ghz from ETC for $40+GST
www.etccomputers.co.nz
or have a look round trademe for a 1.4GHz which is the max your board will officially support, and chuck in a Gig of SDRAM (2x512)
Prolly not advisable to go for a new board & CPU as you'll be up for DDR & a new PSU, or maybe you can pick up an older board,CPU,RAM combo on TM

362895 2005-06-12 00:18:00 your going to be pushing to find a 1.4GHZ P3, if i remember correctly intel recalled most of them. even the 1.3ghz where starting to get a little flaky. you could get a celeron but a slower p3 will eat a faster celeron for breakfast :) tweak'e (69)

that ETC have either a, Intel Celeron Tualatin Socket370 1ghz CPU or Intel Pentium3 733mhz Socket 370, which one of these is faster then?
