362586 2005-06-10 02:27:00 Which is the best program for capturing digital video off a camcorder direct to mpg2?

Are there any free programs? I don't need to edit, just capture.

TIA

362587 2005-06-10 02:32:00 XP has MovieMaker(2) built in which does a pretty good job.

If your not on XP then you could try Virtual Dub.

Personally I would suggest capturing as DV and encoding down.....

362588 2005-06-10 07:10:00 Thanks.

Does Movie maker capture to mpeg2?

I've been capturing to DV and then encoding, but for some reason MM stops capturing within a few minutes, and anyway I don't have enough space to capture the hour-long video to AVI

362589 2005-06-10 07:49:00 I think MM captures as WMV .

BUT u could use Nerovision, now called Nero Digital, to capture whatever or once MM captures the video, Nerovision once u burn it to a DVD, it'll convert it on the fly .

Only thing is, u may need the plugin for Nerovision, as it isnt free .

362590 2005-06-10 09:55:00 If its just for a capture you could download Ulead Video Studio or Pinnicle Studio 30 day trial versions. Very easy to use but if your looking at doing a lot of captures then i'd go with virtual Dub or Virtual Dub Mod. An amazing piece of free software that can do alot of editing tasks as well if needed. lazydog (148)
362591 2005-06-10 21:30:00 Good ideas folks. I'll check them out.

Guess the next question is... what can record via a microphone direct to mp3?
