362598 2005-06-09 23:58:00 Hi people Im am having a strange problem with IE6 (i use firefox normally) Whenever I try to open IE it comes up With a box saying True Vector Service has encountered a problem and closes Im using ZoneAlarm Pro what makes it even more weird is the fact that everything was working fine earlier this morning . I scan my machine just about everyday for viruses and spyware etc none found as of yet. Any Ideas ??? :help: Overdrive_5000 (4950)
362599 2005-06-10 00:09:00 Are you running as Admin ? All Internet surfing should be done as a standard user. This user should not have rights to kill the true vector service (zonealarm)

Run msconfig and look at the startup items, check for any unusual items in the run group.

362600 2005-06-10 00:19:00 Yes im admin also im the only one that uses this pc. There is nothing new or strange in msconfig Overdrive_5000 (4950)
362601 2005-06-10 00:35:00 The uninstalling ""C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" /clean" then re-installing ZoneAlarm. Make sure you have the latest version 5.5.094.

Also create a user for "surfing" only as connecting to the internet as admin is a very high security risk.

362602 2005-06-10 00:57:00 5.5.094 is the version im running at the mo Overdrive_5000 (4950)
362603 2005-06-10 04:46:00 I decided to give hijack this a run and it said something about "You have a particularly large amount of hijacked domains. Its probably better to delete the file itself then to fix each item (and create a backup)" "If you see the same IP address in all the reported O1 items, consider deleting your hosts file"

So could that be whats causing my problems and should I delete my hosts file, will a new one be created automatically ???

362605 2005-06-10 05:24:00 I decided to give hijack this a run and it said something about "You have a particularly large amount of hijacked domains. Its probably better to delete the file itself then to fix each item (and create a backup)" "If you see the same IP address in all the reported O1 items, consider deleting your hosts file"

So could that be whats causing my problems and should I delete my hosts file, will a new one be created automatically ???
No, a new Hosts file will not be created if you delete your current one. Your Hosts file is definitely hijacked but there are not too many there to get HijackThis to fix it.

Put a tick next to all of the following and have HJT fix them:

If it doesn't look like it belongs to something you have installed get it fixed as well.

Do the fixes then post another log.

When you say you have scanned for viruses and spyware, does that include using Ad-aware and Spybot? If not, give both a run with updated definitions .

I would recommend installing SpywareBlaster as well to prevent future problems . Make sure you update it after installing and regularly thereafter .
