362364 2005-06-09 10:30:00 With the version of MSN Search Toolbar made available today, IE 6 gains the ability to open numerous Web pages within a single window, each selectable by a small tab at the top of the window.

Last month, Microsoft confirmed speculation (news.com.com) that it would offer tabbed browsing in the upcoming IE 7.

More info and download here (http://toolbar.msn.com/).

362365 2005-06-09 11:17:00 Doesn't matter to me coz I've never understood the benefits of tabbed browsing anyway. Big Deal. So you can open in a new window or a new tab? No faster or any other imaginable advantage. It's a 'feature' of Opera and Mozilla browsers but I've never been able to find any advantage about it. Something about having whole lots of things 'open' at the same time. Yuuurh, big deal. HTH..m mark c (247)
362366 2005-06-09 11:27:00 Well it depends on whether u want to look at more than 1 site, at the same time.

Obviously u dont. Thats the advantage of tabbed browsers. It saves u opening up numerous sites/pages, like IE. And its easier to go to whatever site.

You can have 10+ sites on the 1 page, and click on each one, instead of opening programs like IE 10 separate times, and losing track of where you're going.

BUT yer, I wouldnt bother with extra programs/addons, like these toolbars.

Why get it, when other browsers can do it already.

362368 2005-06-09 11:46:00 Yo Plod! But aren't all these pages out of date? Or do you get a 'refreshed' page all the time, in which case it needs a new 'window" .

Well if you are on dialup you could be making the most of that feature on this very site. All you need to do is open the PF1 New Posts page, middle click on all the threads you want to read and let them open in new tabs in the background.

When you have clicked on all the ones you want, press the '1' on the keypad to move to the next tab/page and start reading while all the other pages are still loading. To move back to a previous thread, use the '2' number on the keypad.

To scroll up and down the row of tabs hold down the right mouse button and use your scroll wheel. Magic!

362370 2005-06-09 12:09:00 Sorry FoxyMX but I still don't see it. What's the benefit of having something loading in the background to "save you time" when that slows down your present viewing Oh suddenly I see it - while you're reading something. OK I can cope with that. Like while your comp is otherwise inactive. Hmmm Ok.

Haven't got a middle click anyway.

Have to think about this, bit late.

362371 2005-06-09 12:46:00 I'm not sure about the middle click, but with FF you can right click and choose to open the linked page in either a new tab or a new window, and with the correct plug-in installed you can even chose to open the linked page in IE (which I use when FF blocks external images for sites such as TradeMe) which means you leave the original page open, and can keep reading, while the linked pages open in the background. It's one of those things that you don't think you need until you actually use it.
Just my opinion, A

362373 2005-06-09 13:22:00 I'll be giving it a miss. I don't use MSN or the MS search. If I did, I would be a bit wary of the MSN cookie exploit doing the round at the mo. Murray P (44)
