362386 2005-06-09 09:49:00 Website requests are generally sent on PORTS U80/U88 . As you are getting the 505 error, it is possible that the website is not responding within the 3 second window opened in the Router FireWall for response .

When a request is sent at a particular port (say PORT 80) the Router leaves that 'door' unlocked for a response at the same port or 'doorway' . This is left open for only 3 seconds (which is about the maximum life of any TCP/IP packet on the Internet) . If no response is received, the door closes . If any response is received after the door is closed, the packet is rejected and you get a '505 error' from the browser .

This may be an issue with the servers on these sites being over-loaded with requests and them not responding as quickly as necessary to your requests . I would e-mail the webmaster on each site that is exhibiting this problem with a description that this is occuring with:

A router in-line on the connection
Is happening on an irregular basis

It is possible though, that it is a configuration issue with a Router between you and these particular sites . I would recommend that you request that your ISP run a trace on your connection to see if there is a problem with the responses not being passed in a timely manner to your networked pc over the connection 'string' to which ever sites are popping up the 505 errors .

The other test you can do of course, is to ping the websites not responding to make certain their servers are not down . You can either PING the name or the IP address of the site . If the PING to the name of the site fails then the DNS server (the thing that converts 'names' to 'IP addresses') is not functioning . That DNS failure is not a problem with the Router but is a problem that your ISP must address .

Timothy

362388 2005-06-09 21:42:00 Anybody? Bejehsus (8190)
362389 2005-06-10 03:41:00 I wonder if it's a DNS server problem... Maybe you are using invalid DNS servers....

Try manually assigning your DNS servers, under TCP/IP in internet connections settings.

362392 2005-06-10 05:23:00 Best to use your ISP's as your primary, but any can be used, try out ...

Xtra 202.27.158.40
Clear 203.97.33.1
Slingshot 202.180.64.2

362394 2005-06-10 10:16:00 I use 202.27.184.3 (Primary, Xtra) and 202.27.184.5 (Secondary, Xtra) - they were given to me when I first signed up to JetStream a few years ago...

... just because everyone deserves to hear about my life.
