| 362829 | 2005-06-11 00:27:00 | I received a letter from Ihug in today's mail saying that as of 1st August they intend to take away my broadband and consign me to dial-up hell. They are discontinuing Ultra. HELP!!!! We are rural to the west of Auckland, 5 or 6km from the nearest telephone exchange. Jetstream is now in the area but, if the maximum limit is still 4 or 5km, we can't use it. What is the distance for jetstream? How likely is it that Telecom will put repeaters in the line? Are there other wireless alternatives? ...? |

| 362832 | 2005-06-11 00:55:00 | Hi tweak'e The letter didn't suggest a satellite option (full of Blink ideas) but a few minutes ago their overloaded help desk rang back and suggested that this was an alternative. and Overdrive, I've had a quick look at Wired Country. We are 20km south of Kumeu but have a direct line of sight to the Sky Tower from our spot high in the Waitakeres. We therefore fall outside the Rodney coverage area but may be OK with the Auckland Central coverage depending on their signal strength(Ultra currently comes from the Sky Tower). Any other ideas out there? As I have to change it will be a good idea to analysis all the alternatives. All ideas very helpful and much appreciated. |
