just wondering if anyone has some expertise in this area.

The hard drive I had replaced about 3 months ago now, crapped out again about 2 weeks back. I took it back into the store, and just today finally went back to get it, wasnt notified when it came in. The problem is, I bought a seagate 80gb HD. THe owner gave me a hitachi 80gb HD to replace it. Is this fair? I didnt except it, and told him I wanted a seagate, he said I would have to wait. I have dealt with this guy before and I have a feeling he will make me wait as long as possbile.

Is he allowed to give me another product in replacement? And am I allowed to claim a refund? I am not satisfied with the service I have received from him, infact when i asked him to call me when the HD came in, he gave me his number nad told me to call him.

363461 2005-06-13 06:26:00 No it is not fair. If you returned your Holden to a motor dealer, would you be hppy if he gave you a ford as a replacement? or vice versa.

You are entitled to the correct replacement, and if he cannot provide that then he has to give you a refund.

363462 2005-06-13 06:33:00 Funny that that is the exact same example I gave him ie. holden and ford. He dismissed it, and then told me I would hvae to wait for one. Thing is, I believe he has stock in store. And also I dont think it would take longer than a week to get one in. I would love to get a refund, just so I dont have to deal with him any longer. 363463 2005-06-13 06:37:00 Seagates have a 5 year warranty. The other rubbish brand doesn't. Go back and ask for your money back. Poor service from him... pctek (84)
363464 2005-06-13 06:41:00 I did last time it stuffed up this is the second time and he refuses. I am in a position where I now have to wait as I agreed to wait for a new HD. Whats reasonable time frame? He also denies seagate have a 5 year warrentee...am I allowed to name and shame the shop? fatty (6649)

Funny, a wee check of Ascent (http://www.ascent.co.nz) reveals no stock problems with Seagate IDE or SATA.

Warranty is 60 months too.

Name and shame. I personally don't trust many computer shops, I've heard so many horror stories.

Contact these guys too. They are the official distributors for Seagates. Tell them the situation. Seagate won't be impressed with his denials etc...

363469 2005-06-13 21:52:00 also.........send a friend in to 'buy' a hdd.......tell them to ask for a seagate......if he says 'yep got one' make sure they see it.....then get them to say...'oh I"ll be back in a few mins with the $' make sure you are waiting around the corner......when they come out to tell you that yes he has a seagate...go back in and ask for your replacment one.......when he says ......'i dont got one' call your friend on your cellphone and get them to come back into the shop ..........that'll be entertaining..........then post back here and tell us what happened .........PLEASE....... drcspy (146)
