im looking at buying this chip.. looks pretty good for gaming and only $402

Intel Pentium 4 550J - 3.4Ghz - (800FSB/LGA775/1MB/XD)

i was wondering wat the XD is for? also how much better performance wise are the LGA 775 socket chips over S748?

stands for eXecute Disable (which in Intel's marketing term)

Designed for (in conjunction with the operating system e.g. XP SP2) prevention of buffer overflow attacks by worms, etc.
