363162 2005-06-11 13:27:00 Hi All,

I am on a WIN ME system with a choice of Browsers installed including : Opera,Firefox,Mozilla and ofcourse IE 6.0 which is basically used for updating the OS ; alongwith the following applications :

a) Proxomitron 4.5 (1.6.2003)
b) Kerio PFW 2.5.1
c) SpyWare Blaster
d) AdAware SE Personal 1.05
e) SpyBot S&D 1.4B2 ; etc

For some time now I am facing a problem which seems to be recurring every 3/4 days: during the time my dial-up internet connection is being established - suddenly the system freezes - and a row of small uniform vertical green lines is seen stretching from left to right at the top of the screen .The internet connection stalls and the system stops responding. Finally , only after switching off and on the power - does the system returns back to normalcy.

Could members point me to a possible solution.

Thanks in advance.

363163 2005-06-11 22:16:00 Graphics card problem....try updating the driver. If no difference try chnaging the card to see if its actually the card itself. (If onboard, well, you're stuck with it) pctek (84)
363164 2005-06-11 22:21:00 Maybe an Interrupt problem too? The modem and the vid card might be sharing the same reference point...had it happen to the vid driver and the modem on a (Another ME system TOO!) and you could not shut down the modem as long as the vid cmmd was going. Shut off the puter, and the modem shut off too. Drove me nuts for a week... SurferJoe46 (51)

363166 2005-06-12 05:27:00 Thanks All for the replies.

My UPS has certainly been acting up somewhat recently and this could definitely be it.

However let me further investigate and then come back.
