363901 2005-06-14 11:30:00 Hi there
Would love some A-Z help with my problem....really feeling older than I should and thinking that I have bought a lemon.:)
Just updated my scanner from aged Acer to the above thinking that it would be straight forward and that I would get great pics etc but alas Acers photos were in comparison great!!! what am I doing wrong?
pics are very grainy....
could someone please help[ me set it up and what 'easy' directions I do for photos and text please.
My son had set my Acer up so that once I brought the desktop icon up I just clicked either of 2 'buttons' one for pics and the other text. (think he thought anything more would be beyond me? :)
but trust me I'm ready to move beyond kindergarten in my old age.
look forward to any help
Lindy :help:

363902 2005-06-14 22:03:00 A key spec for a scanner is its maximum optical resolution, measured in dots per inch (dpi). You'll pay more for greater resolution.

A scanner's driver software allows you to preview a scan onscreen and crop it or adjust contrast and brightness. Once you're satisfied with the edited image, you can perform a final scan and pass the image to a running program or save it on your computer. You can make more extensive changes to an image with specialized image-editing software.

However, what pictures are you scanning? If they are photos you probably won't get an excellent result anyway. They all tend to flatten the image out and often exaggerate any graininess. Especially if they were fairly low-resolution to start with.

363903 2005-06-17 23:53:00 Hi
thanks for your reply....the photos that I have previously scanned looked fairly similar to the originals with the Acer but the new ones take on the grainy effect not showing in the original at the same size.
Maybe I'll have to reload the old scanner on again and put the new one to rest???!!!
cheers Lindy

363904 2005-06-18 00:00:00 My Canon has a range of different resolutions going from normal to very fine
It sounds to me that yr res is not set properly.I would doubt very much if the Canon would turn out poor pics as a mater of course,it must be to do with settings.
