363756 2005-07-06 09:33:00 My understanding of the rules is that we are not allowed to sell stuff at a commercial level. Flicking off yer redundant personal dongles would be fine!Well, not really either. This is not Trade & Exchange. When Metla's site gets up and running, then that could be used to sell your unwanted stuff.

I've contacted the member involved about the posts that were made today trying to sell old hardware.

363757 2005-07-18 00:27:00 well all, after being mucked around by noel leeming for 2 weeks i finally got my wireless router and card. I got hte Belkin A+G router, which operates on 5ghz freq. (model F6D3230AU4) and its matching PC Card.

all around its brilliant, i can access the router next door in the granny flat, through two brick walls with 40% signal strength, however most importantly at the full speed of 108mbps, not that that is needed for simple adsl.

on the security side of things, due to its obviously fairly large range, for A,B and G standards you have the WPA protection, set an access password, and anyone who wants to access ur network has to have the smae settings and password. I cudnt even see the network, or access it wirelessly till i had set up a profile.

am very pleased with the results and i hope this helps other people in deciding what to get.

cheers

363758 2005-07-18 01:31:00 What about a combination wireless and wired network?

Ok, heres my situation...

I work in a Skyline Gottage (which is basically a lined and carpeted tin shed) down the back of the section. My adsl modem/router (Dynalink RTA 300) and wireless access point (Linksys WAP 54G) are both with the main computer in the shed. The family PC is in the house about 50 yards away, and I sometimes use my laptop in the house as well. All computers are networked through a mixed LAN/WLAN and the ones in the house connect wirelessly to the net through this system. They all synchronise files daily through the WLAN, so it is part of my back up system.

When I initially set it up, the house computers had a very poor or non-existent wireless connection. I bought an external aerial from DSE and mounted it under the shelter of the verandah roof on the shed - once the signal was coming from outside the tin shielding, it worked fine. I can even get a good connection with the laptop at the opposite end of the house, so the signal is going right through the house (both lath and plaster and gib board walls, plus french doors) and across the garden to the shed.

Someone else has answered your security questions.

Search for XH8137 on Dick Smith Electrical website - it is showing as limited stock for $118. It is actually an indoor aerial, but I have tucked it up under the verandah so it doesn't get any weather.
