| 364366 | 2005-06-16 07:27:00 | Has anyone used DriveClone (by Farstone) OR SIMILAR to create hard drive images? I want to do a clean reinstall of Windows and then create an disk image of my hard drive . Then if my system crashes, I can restore my Windows system quickly . I thought there might be a review in PC World but I couldn't find it . PS I know there are also products like RestoreIT (by FarStone) and "True Images" (by Acronis) but I didn't really want to go that way because I deal with sensitive documents . I already do normal backups of documents . Thanks |

"Acronis 8" will make an Image when still in Windows. Does not work on all computers. "PQ Drive Image 2002" is also a good one. Be sure to get the "Power Quest" version as they have been taken over by Symantec and used as "Ghost 9" which is bloated. Do not keep your Documents in "My Documents", if the system crashes your data goes with it. Create a separate partition for all your Data and back it to CD. Zip it up first otherwise when you restore it the files will be "read only" which is annoying! You can put a password on the Zip files if you wish. Also make a special partition for your Image files, you can burn them to CD if you wish. You can also hide the partition to prevent "aliens" from deleting them. |

It only takes a few seconds & I have never had a corrupt file yet. If you encrypt the folder, all the files in that folder will also be encrypted. |
