| 364399 | 2005-06-16 09:32:00 | My "Connection status" reports lots of errors received. After 20mins there are 975 errors. Has been as high as 4000 per hour. Telstra clear dialup ISP. Winmodem. Two phones on the line....one in the garage.... other is a cordless uniden. Had the service for over 3 years....has run up to 45kb on a good day. W2k, IE6. Zonealarm, AVG Overhead phone lines/ rural location. What can I check? Does running modem cable near/ alongside electrical wiring and or devices affect speed/ errors. Anyone with any experience re this prob, please? |

| 364401 | 2005-06-16 10:46:00 | Well, my connection speed suddenly came back to life!................ I rang TelstraClear help desk........talked to the chap there.......and minutes later the errors dramatically slowed. Where I would have logged 500 errors on the activity section of the "connection to telstraclear status" dialog box.......now I only had 7!!! Did he do something?......can it last?....time will tell..... After 2 weeks of a snails pace, I 'm happy. Comments anyone? |

| 364402 | 2005-06-17 06:11:00 | I spoke too soon......logged in again this afternoon@4......the first 45 minutes were dead slow, just dismal.......A page would stall and need refreshing 6 or so times before it would load.........NZ sites generally appeared to be better than offshore ones. .......and then after 45mins.....it suddenly came good. Surely someone out there has had this problem and has already been through the steps to fix. |

Does running modem cable near/ alongside electrical wiring and or devices affect speed/ errors. Get a hardware modem, preferably external serial. You could try a "rural" modem too. Unplug the cordless. Move to the city. (yes, well) Move the modem wiring away from the power cables. |
