364184 2005-06-15 09:58:00 Opened messenger and got notice that new version was available. Decided to download new version and went to XtraMsn website via link then AVG pops up telling the file I am downloading contains a trojan called IRC/Backdoor.SdBot.CS!

What's going on here? Is AVG telling porkies or has the XtraMS site been compromised and the download file infected?

Lucy

364186 2005-06-15 10:17:00 HEH?

Virus scanners are notories for false positives.

Anyhow, If you think it has a virus, Don't download it for now,Report it to them and see what they say.

MS have distrinbuted CD's of commercial programs in the past that were chock full of viruses, anthing is possible.

Thanks Terry but that's the site I was downloading from - thought it was xtra site cos of the logo in corner.

Won't bother with messenger - don't use it much anyway.
