| 365135 | 2005-06-19 00:12:00 | NetscapeThe latest upgrade - version 8.0.2 - fixes a previously reported flaw that interferes with Internet Explorers XML rendering engine. Netscape offers an interesting feature that allows users to switch between the Mozilla and Internet Explorer rendering engine when viewing a Web page. This integration with IE is related to the bug that broke IE's XML rendering. The issue was uncovered on the blog of one of Microsoft's IE program managers, Dave Massey. He warned last month that installing Netscape would cause IE to render XML pages as blank pages. "After installing Netscape 8 the XML rendering capabilities of Internet Explorer no longer work," Massy wrote in his blog. "That means that if you navigate in IE to an XML file such as an RSS feed or an XML file with an XSLT transformation applied then rather than seeing the data you are presented with a blank page." This is the second update to the Netscape browser since its re-release in about a month ago. On day after its initial release, AOL had to release security patches to fix some critical security holes.AOL spokesman Andrew Weinstein placed the blame squarely on Microsoft's shoulders. He claimed that the problem occurred because Microsoft provided "faulty documentation" for Internet Explorer. Microsoft hasn't responded to the claim. Microsoft's temporary fix to the problem was to recommend the removal of Netscape and the modification of some registry settings. Along with the IE XML fix, Netscape 8.0.2 adds some performance enhancements and fixes to other issues - including a bug that crashed the browser. The latest update is getting some negative responses from users claiming that the new version of AOL's browser is even more unstable - crashing multiple times.
