| 364955 | 2005-06-18 07:17:00 | I am looking at a new computer AMD 64 3500+ 1GB dual channel ram Motherboard with PCIX, dual channel ram, SATA raid 0, 1, gigabit lan etc etc. other various goodies But graphics wise I am STUMPED! Ive been looking at benchmarks and the such for the whole day and I really cant make up my mind. Should i get a 6800GT (256mb, PCIX), or run SLI 6600GT most benchmarks the 6800GT was ahead, but depending on anti aliasing etc settings at some resolutions the 6600GT SLI beat it. I am swaying more towards the 6800GT, and overall I think it had better performance, and also as some games are not SLI compatable, the high performance from the one card would be more useful to me. Any help would be much appreciated |

| 364957 | 2005-06-18 07:41:00 | The only problem with future SLI upgrade is the fact it has to be exactly the same card, including the firmware and all that. would upgrading the 6800GT firmware be easy in the future, if i wasnt able to get a 6800GT of same fireware/card make/ram etc.? | dirtbag (6060) | ||

| 364961 | 2005-06-18 10:57:00 | Well I dithered for ages too. In the end I got an X850XT. Best single card performance I could see. SLI is nice but you have to get 2 cards. Couldn't bring myself to get 2 lesser cards, 2 x 6800Ultras appealed but for the not double performance gain for the cost of 2 cards - nah. Happy with my ATI. | pctek (84) | ||
| 364962 | 2005-06-19 00:39:00 | I can't find the extra 200 or so to get an 850XT, after some more staring at benchmarks and other forums I think I will get the 6800GT, the single card performance beats the dual 6600GTs in most cases, especially in the tests that involved higher resolutions, anti aliasing and antistropic (sp) filtering etc. | dirtbag (6060) | ||
